During the month of July, Our Healthy Kentucky Home focuses on substance use disorders and harm reduction. Substance use disorder, otherwise known as addiction, occurs when an individual compulsively misuses drugs or alcohol despite knowing the negative impact it has on their life. Harm reduction seeks to reduce negative consequences associated with using drugs and is an important component of Kentucky’s efforts to promote prevention, treatment and recovery.
The pillars of the Our Healthy Kentucky Home campaign are important for those struggling with addiction. Adopting a healthy eating pattern, regular
physical activity and building a strong
sober support network is essential to the recovery journey.
